“I don’t know,” he says, before pointing out how they’re currently enjoying the freedom that comes with Demi’s three children (with ex-husband Bruce Willis) being so much older now.

“There is a level of independence that we’ve never had since our relationship started, and an ability to spend time together doing things that we might want to take advantage of. Because in our relationship we’ve always had kids.”

So it has nothing to do with, as McFadden brings up, the fact that his wife’s biological clock may be ticking at 47 years old?

“I think my wife is a genetic freak,” insists Ashton. “I’m not worried.”

A strange term of endearment? Perhaps. But also kinda true.
